By choice and design, I am licensed as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in only my home state of Maine and my adopted state of Texas. What this means for you is that if you live anywhere except Maine or Texas, I am not licensed to work with you on a clinical basis.
All therapy is provided via telehealth, via video or phone. It is the most efficient use of time for both clients and myself. Also with telhealth tele-health you can be assured there will be no awkward moments in a waiting room.
The Therapy I Provide
My preference and my area of expertise is providing individual therapy to adults, both male and female. I also provide couples counseling, but only when domestic abuse is not present. I do not provide family therapy, group therapy, or therapy with anyone under the age of 18.
While there are many treatment modalities, my preferred method is called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). It is problem oriented and solution focused. The goal of CBT is to challenge and replace negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors with ones that are protective and productive.
My education and experience have provided me with the training to effectively work with people who have been diagnosed with:
- anxiety
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- bi-polar disorder
- depression
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- substance use disorders (SUD)
Many people who have never been diagnosed with a mental health disorder go into therapy because of complicated life situations. In addition to having the expertise of working directly with clients on the following life situations, I have literally “written the book” on how to manage the following life situations:
- stress (home, work or school related)
- relationships (including victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse)
- anger (your own or someone else’s)
- self-esteem and confidence
- winning or losing gracefully in sports, politics and life
Personalization
The type of therapy I provide is a nonjudgmental, holistic, problem-solving approach that considers and incorporates the biological, cultural, environmental and psychological aspects of your life.
Your therapy will be individualized and custom-fit for you.
No two sessions will ever be identical. Because your care is personalized and not controlled by your insurance company, your sessions will be anything you need them to be:
- skill building, coping strategies, or psychoeducation
- an objective perspective
- collaborative problem solving
- a cheerleading session that includes validation and/or emotional support
- active listening in a no judgement zone
Direct Access
My therapy practice is based on direct access to me, your therapist. When you call, email or text, your message will only be seen or heard by me, not an insurance company agent, a receptionist, answering service personnel, or anyone else who doesn’t know you or your needs.
When you leave an email or text message for me, because we have a therapeutic relationship based on courtesy, professionalism and respect, you don’t have to worry if I will call you back. I will.
