When I was in high school, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. When I saw an advertisement in the local newspaper looking for volunteers at the Family Violence Project (FVP), a resource center for victims of domestic abuse, I called.
At the time, I had no idea that my ability to listen and to provide emotional support would eventually lead me to an undergraduate degree in social work (BASW) from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, a graduate degree (MSW) from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts and a life-long career as a licensed clinical social worker.
In addition to my clinical work, I have used my social work skills in a variety of settings:
- owned and operated a private therapy practice
- been the Director of Outpatient Services at a medical conglomerate
- provided mental health services to inmates at a county jail
- been adjunct faculty at the largest public university in Maine
- written grants and strategic plans for nonprofits as a management consultant
- been an evaluator of multi-year, multi-million-dollar federal grants
- been an expert court witness relating to domestic abuse and anger
- been a national conference presenter on domestic abuse and anger
Nonclinical Interests
In my nonclinical time, I love to write and to travel. My self-help books are available on Amazon. In addition to this website, I have a website pertaining to mental health topics: www.relationshipsrelearned.com
On a personal note, my husband and I are avid travelers and explorers. Since 2018 we have traveled in a motorhome over 130,000 miles through many cities and towns in all 48 contiguous states. We have chronicled our travels on a separate website: www.rvingnomads.com
If you are an adult who lives in Maine or Texas and you are ready to explore therapy, I invite you to contact me to schedule a free, 15-minute consultation.
